If you or someone you know has been recently diagnosed with diverticulosis, you may be wondering when your first diverticulitis attack will happen and what some of the typical diverticulitis symptoms are. It is perfectly natural to be worried about this and your pursuit of knowledge will help you be better prepared for the inevitable attack, so congratulations on learning more!

The biggest diverticulitis symptom is also, unfortunately, the most painful – a sharp pain usually felt in the lower left portion of the abdomen (stomach). Other symptoms include bleeding from the rectum (not always present), diarrhea or constipation, and nausea. Bottom line – your biggest clue will be the pain in your abdomen, though this sometimes manifests itself as a dull ache that gets worse within a few days.

Whatever order the symptoms arrive in, make sure you head to the hospital right away; diverticulitis symptoms may not always be easy to pin down but diverticulitis can cause some horrible problems if not treated.
